well for the last two days we've been on an adventure! We went to a "mountain" in suriname called Brownsberg. It is only 3000 feet above sea level and it only cools off to 20 degrees at the top during the night but to the surinames its freezing!
We drove for about 2hrs south of Paramaribo. It was mostly country driving with little villages here and there. Our driver Richard (boyfriend to Lucretia's niece) said he would drive as far as he could to the base of the mountain because the road had been recently washed out. We had decided as a group to hike up the mountain. He drove till he got stuck in a rut then it was time for us to go! And while I (Josiah) took a leak mike and ryan pushed him out (he wasnt really that stuck).
Well we walked and walked for about 3 hrs up this crazy muddy mountain. We found out why it's called the "Brown Mountain". The dirt there is reddish brown and the first thing I did was step in a massive puddle of brown!
So at the top we were going to meet Luctrecia's brother Robert (Rocky). And apperently he had sent somebody down to get us. But when we met the guy we couldnt understand what he was saying plus we remembered the golden rule all our mothers taught us: "Dont take rides from strangers." so techniquely we didnt have to walk. shoot. thanks mom.
Once we got up there we had an awesome meal cooked by Rocky the chef himself then we hit the hay or hammock whatever.
The next morning we watched Rocky feed his "pets". Little flightless birds called Kamakazies! Little did we know that we had eaten these cute little birds the night before. Theyre pretty good actually.
We then went for a couple hikes to see the water falls. That was awesome. The water was so clear and we could even drink it without getting beaver feaver (or monkey feaver). We sat in the little pools it made as the cooling water splashed over our backs (Mike is being a poet). We found some huge trees and some Tarzan style vines that we totally took advantage of.
Altoghether we didnt see as much wild life as you would expect in the rain forest. We would have liked to see the Forest Master (a deadly snake that hides in the trees pounceing on wayward canadians) but we had to settle for a much smaller snake that only kills you in 3 hrs as opposed to 3 minutes like the Forest Master.
We had an awesome break but it was time to go back down the mountain. We decided to take a bus down instead of walking. the bus was crazy. sometimes we felt that we would tip over and slide down the mountain the roads were so trecherous. well we made it down alive and we're now ready to go make hospital visits with Dominee Kross.
Well thanks again for your prayers! God bless!
From Ryan Mike and Josiah.
Wow! That's some tree! Good to see you all well. Great Pics; please post more...? Seeing it has been more than 3 hrs since the post, I will assume none of you were bit by the snake. Btw, was the snake that pic of the bitty black & white thingy??? I Love you all (appropriately):D
ReplyDeleteJosiah, I ended up getting help to find this blog (I'm such a newb). I Love You.
All of you stay safe & be aware of your surroundings. <3 Mom
